Math the way it was intenDed to be

From the beginning of time until just before the modern era, Math was a process of discussion and logic, not a set of rules to memorize. Join a class that emphasizes the roots of Mathematics, not the surface.

THE DIALOGUE

In these virtual tutorials, mathematics is not viewed as a static set of rules, but as a dynamic, living dialogue. Each class is a revival of the ancient Socratic tradition where understanding is forged through rigorous discussion and metanoia.

By following the pedagogical footprints of history's greatest mathematicians, students are encouraged to question first principles and derive proofs through logic rather than rote memorization. This methodology builds more than just numerical skill; it cultivates a disciplined and philosophical mind.

Live Classical Mathematical Tutorials

Deepen your understanding through the historical methods of the ancient schools. The curriculum emphasizes logical deduction and the beauty of formal proof via interactive video sessions available globally. Explore the core program below.

Euclid (Year 1)

A foundational course in classical geometry, exploring the logic of the first books of the Elements and the Socratic method of proof.

Astronomy (Year 2a)

A geometric investigation into the heavens, studying the astronomical models of Ptolemy, Copernicus and Kepler's ancient mathematical cosmos through dialectic seminars.

Conics (Year 2b)

An advanced study of Apollonius' Conics, focusing on the properties of sections of a cone through pure geometry and motion-based logic.

Calculus (Year 3)

The culmination of classical studies, moving into the infinitesimal methods and the architectural logic of early analysis and differentiation.

Other Mathematical Services

In addition to the core curriculum, specialized tutoring and personalized class plans for individual students or families are available. Please reach out to me if you are interested in these.

Jack White

Jack White is a student at St. John's College in Annapolis, MD. He has both taken these classes and taught them, allowing him to guide students through interactive live video math classes, bringing the Socratic method to the modern era. His classes emphasize deep inquiry and the architectural logic of the ancient world. Through these classes, he encourages participants to rediscover the foundational proofs of Euclid and Apollonius from anywhere, fostering a profound understanding of mathematical truth through dialogue, not just the memorization tactics so often taught in today's schools.
